“Heavy” is one of the first words that comes to mind when I think of batteries. Is a Heinkel EV any heavier than a stock Heinkel? Let’s take a look:
Heinkel ICE Parts Removed:
- Engine with swingarm: 111 pounds (with oil)
- Tire and Wheel: 12 pounds
- Gas Tank: 5 pounds
- Gas in the tank (3.25 gallons at 6.1 pounds per gallon): 20 pounds
- Carburetor: 4 pounds
- Airfilter: 3 pounds
- 30 amp starter battery with holder: 20 pounds
- TOTAL: 175 pounds
EV parts Added:
- Battery pack: 127 pounds
- Hub Motor: 66 pounds
- Backing Plate: 3 pounds
- Swingarm with axle: 7 pounds
- Interconnects and rods: 6 pounds
- High voltage wiring: 6 pounds
- Swingarm mount: 2 pounds
- BMS: 3 pounds
- Charger: 10 pounds
- Controller: 10 pounds
- TOTAL: 234 pounds
The facts are in: a Heinkel EV drivetrain weighs 1/3 more than the original drivetrain, or about 59 lbs (27 kilos) more. Given the performance upgrade that trade it well worth it!
