Is a Heinkel EV Heavy?

Heinkel EV Incremental Weight
Not quite the difference- but almost!

“Heavy” is one of the first words that comes to mind when I think of batteries. Is a Heinkel EV any heavier than a stock Heinkel? Let’s take a look:

Heinkel ICE Parts Removed:

  • Engine with swingarm: 111 pounds (with oil)
  • Tire and Wheel: 12 pounds
  • Gas Tank: 5 pounds
  • Gas in the tank (3.25 gallons at 6.1 pounds per gallon): 20 pounds
  • Carburetor: 4 pounds
  • Airfilter: 3 pounds
  • 30 amp starter battery with holder: 20 pounds
  • TOTAL: 175 pounds

EV parts Added:

  • Battery pack: 127 pounds
  • Hub Motor: 66 pounds
  • Backing Plate: 3 pounds
  • Swingarm with axle: 7 pounds
  • Interconnects and rods: 6 pounds
  • High voltage wiring: 6 pounds
  • Swingarm mount: 2 pounds
  • BMS: 3 pounds
  • Charger: 10 pounds
  • Controller: 10 pounds
  • TOTAL: 234 pounds

The facts are in: a Heinkel EV drivetrain weighs 1/3 more than the original drivetrain, or about 59 lbs (27 kilos) more. Given the performance upgrade that trade it well worth it!
