Lambretta Li 150
This scooter was the start (and end!) of my 2 stoke tuning obsession. The stock 150 is pokey at best, so I thought I’d add some zip with tuning products that were just coming available in the early 2000’s.
Here’s what I did:
Engine
- Deanspeed 185 kit
- New Seals and Bearings
- New clutch and clutch springs
- New anti vibration motor mounts
Fuel and Exhaust System
- High Flow Fuel Tap
- Jetex 22mm carb
- New leader pipe and stock pattern exhaust
Brakes and Suspension
- New progressively wound front springs
- New front dampeners
- Slotted brake shoes
- New rear hub (Indian)
- Cheng Shing Tires (spare has a Michelin S83)
Electrical System
- 12v Scooters Originali Electronic Ignition
- Ducati CDI
- 35 watt headlight
- New 12 v bulbs
- New handlebar switch (Indian)
- New Headlamp rim and lens
- New Taillight lens
The end result was a beautiful and exceedingly unreliable scooter. My kids would joke that we could go on a tour of North Shore and highlight the many places we broke down or lost parts on the side of the road. It was a lot of fun! It was a great tuning test bed. Eventually I got it sorted and sold it as I was moving into the 4 stroke scooter era with Heinkels and Modern Vespas.
The scooter now resides in the the Classics Cafe Museum: https://cyclesclassiccafemuseum.com/
