On October 17 I posted about my non-functioning speedometer, and determined the problem was down where the cable meets the engine:

I took it apart, and found that the speedometer drive was not making a good contact with the actual drive nut in the swingarm:

My little piece apparently never made adequate contact with the slotted nut, and just spun around on the surface of it.
I discussed the problem with my local machinist, and he came up with a great idea. I’m going to use a spring to pick up the slack between the drive and the nut. It looks like this:
I cleaned up the slot and the little distance piece so they fit together easily. I’m confident it’s going to work!
